When insulating a surface it is always recommended that insulation should be placed on the hotter side. Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) is noted for its high thermal conductivity and roof accounts for approx. 40% to 50% of total heat gain. Once the RCC roof is heated up there is no other way for the heat to escape then to the inside of the buildings. So those places having hot and dry climates it is always sensible to insulate the RCC roof / walls from the top/ outside.
In Overdeck Roof Insulation / Solid Wall Insulation a thermal barrier or insulation does not allows the structure to receive the direct incidence of heat incurring following benefits:
- A non airconditioned building will have more comfortable climate inside.
- One needs to run the weather control utilities much lesser thus reducing energy costs.
- Life of the building enhances - as external insulation protects the building from thermal stresses and delays devoloping of cracks and leakages.
Suggested materials for overdeck roof insulation and solid wall insulation:
- XPS
- PUF Slabs
