Underdeck Insulation Of Concrete Roof
As roof alone accounts for approx. 40% to 50% of total heat gain, it is always sensible to insulate the roof. Insulation of a RCC roof can be done from the underside.
The spandrel cavity needs to be filled up with an insulation material so that conditioned air of a floor do not leak into the adjacent floors.
This requires special care:
- Possibility of an insulation material taking up the moisture from the roof should be desisted. So either use a vapor barrier in between the insulation and the roof or use a non hygroscopic insulation material.
- Screws used to fix the insulation to the roof underside should be chosen of such a material that they should not act as a conduit for heat transmission from the roof.
Suggested Materials for Underdeck Insulation:
- XPS
- Spray PUF
- Non crosslinked Polyethylene Foam
